Adventure Island: The Beginning (Wii)

Whilst having another loads-of-points-in-my-account-but-I-am-weak moment, I bought this from the Wii Ware shop in the week. I’m not impressed with the quality of the presentation, to be honest. The graphics are a bit shoddy, in that 2.5D way games sometimes are, and the screen fonts look like they’re poorly scaled, and it’s not in widescreen. However, it plays like a great platformer from days gone by. It’s hard (I’m at World 2-2 and it’s difficult already), but that’s good – …

To the woman with the Isuzu 4×4

Dear Woman with an Isuzu 4×4 at Asda tonight, I noticed you parked your oversized car in the last remaining “family” space. You know, those spaces reserved for people with children, who have to struggle with car seats and pushchairs. Those spaces positioned near the shop doors, so you don’t have to wheel your baby through quite so much cold and rain. Those spaces in such great demand to people with families, that even on a relatively quiet night there’s …

Bubble Bobble Plus (Wii)

Played co-op with my wife this afternoon. All was going well, until we reached level 72. Which is impossible. I remembered it from the arcade version, and although it was bit fiddly there, on Bubble Bobble Plus it is, in fact, impossable. You start in a narrow column, and can’t get out without jumping on bubbles. Problem is, you’re too enclosed to blow any as they burst immediately. In the arcade version, you can put your back to the left …

Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People – Episode 4 (Wii): COMPLETED!

I only started playing it this morning, but already it’s completed. It wasn’t shorter than previous episodes, just a little easier and I had quite a bit of play on it throughout the day. It was different to previous episodes in that you’re acting out a film that Strong Bad has made, called Dangeresque 3. A badly made film, of course. As a result, all the usual locations in the game have been repurposed as bits of set, and all …

Fillum review: Talladega Nights (2006)

How to comment on this film without mentioning Days of Thunder? Answer: I can’t. In fact, not only is Days of Thunder mentioned in the film, but the entire plot seems to have been borrowed. Sort of. I’ve not actually seen Days of Thunder for years, but there was more than a bit of deja vu watching Talladega Nights. As a comedy, though, Talladega Nights does things for laughs. And thankfully, it is funny. Not amazingly so, but it still …

Penny Arcade Adventures On The Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 1 (360): COMPLETED!

It turned out I didn’t have a lot left to do in the game. I wiped out the last of the evil mimes with invisible items, then killed the last of the, uh, robots, fully upgraded my weapons, and then set off after the end of game boss. Who was actually pretty easy to beat. He took a fair while to take down, but I had so many items that even when he got a few full unblocked attacks in …

Family Game Night (360)

Look, I didn’t buy this, OK? I got a free copy of Connect 4 with something I ordered from SoftUK, and then today I won a competition to win Yahtzee, Battleship and another (great!) copy of Connect 4. Joy! What do I think? I think it’s… alright? Stupidly expensive if you fork out 800 points each for the games, and the real-life versions of the games are more, well, usable (and don’t have Mr Potato Head prancing around all the …

Prizes for me!

I won a competition today! I’m most impressed, as I never, ever, win anything. At all. Ever. I had to come up with family friendly versions of “mature rated” games. In the end, I think I won through swamping them with entries. Anyway, my prizes? Not so amazing, unfortunately. I won copies of Xbox Live Arcade lemons Yahtzee, Connect 4 and Battleship. They’re not awful, but they’re not exactly the sort of thing I’d normally be after. Not least because …

Bubble Bobble Plus (Wii)

Who can resist Bubble Bobble? Nobody! Which is why I bought it! Again! I’m sure I now have about 50 different copies of this for every console and computer ever made ever. And then I bought it again! But wait! This version has extra game modes, and 2.5D graphics! And the same stuck-in-your-head theme tune. So it’s ace.

Penny Arcade Adventures On The Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 1 (360)

I bought this a couple of weeks ago when it was on offer, but it’s only at the weekend that I had a chance to play it. I had enjoyed the demo previously, but 1600 points was a bit too much to pay for one episode of a game when I had loads of other games to play. 800 points, though, is a bargain. The story so far: is nuts. I didn’t really expect anything else, though. I’ve already cleared …

Outrun Online Arcade (360): COMPLETED!

Well, I did say that online was the main bit of Outrun, didn’t I? “Completed”, in case you’re wondering, entailed this: completing every Goal from A-E, and the 15 Stage mode, all on Normal difficulty. Yeah, a bit short, but never mind. I did try some time trials, but there’s no way on earth I’ll ever manage to get the achievements for them. 4:30 to reach a goal? My fastest time, with no mess-ups, crashes, and very little off-roading, was …
