New Super Mario Bros Wii (Wii): COMPLETED!

Of course, I’ve merely defeated the end of game boss. And I even accidentally found a warp from World 5 to World 8, so haven’t even done 6 and 7 yet. Or got all the gold coins so far. Or rescued all the Toads. But I do have 42 lives and haven’t seen the Super Guide or the Game Over screen yet, so that’s all good, yes? And, of course, I will go back. In fact, I’m going back now …

Christmas

Seeing as it’s Christmas Eve today, I thought it time for a Christmas blog post. I have been accused, in the past, mainly by both my wife and my mother, of being bah humbug when it comes to Christmas. It’s not an entirely false accusation, if somewhat exaggerated. For quite a few years now, the “bad” side of Christmas has been the overriding factor in the runup – the shopping, and being shopped for, especially. I’m useless at figuring out …

Fallout 3: Point Lookout (360): COMPLETED!

Immediately after completing Broken Steel, I downloaded and started playing Point Lookout. And oh, is it lovely. It’s the best DLC for the game I’ve played so far (and from what I’ve heard, The Pitt and Mothership Zeta, the two I’ve yet to try, aren’t as good) but it’s HUGE. I’ve done pretty much everything I can – all the achievements, all the quests and side quests, and all the incidental stuff I can find along the way. And it’s …

Fallout 3: Broken Steel (360): COMPLETED!

After around 12 hours play (yes, I got a bit distracted for a few missions, as usual), I completed Broken Steel. The level cap increase is great, and the addition of the new baddies have made the game hard again (only the Deathclaws ever gave me a challenge once I hit level 20 – and even then only in packs). The Feral Ghoul Reavers, though, are more than a bit hard, are they not?! Even with a weapon that does …

Fallout 3: Broken Steel (360)

I felt it was finally time to return to The Wasteland. So I did. Part of the reason was that I wanted a game to fill the gap before Christmas, and a Fallout expansion fits the bill. Another reason was that I’ve really got into music from the 40s and Fallout is full of it. No, really – I have. I bought and downloaded Broken Steel, and have so far completed the mission with the satellite linkup thing. Of course, …

GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony (360): COMPLETED!

Seems I was a bit wrong in my stats last time. I was 50% complete at 8 hours. However, I was pretty close to completing the story, with only a handful of missions available. Still, it took me over 12 hours in total before I completed it. Thankfully, the ending mission was more lighthearted and less back-stabby than both Nico and Jonny’s plotlines. Even if it did turn out to be utterly ridiculous. Fun though.

No Airport Card Installed problem with a MacBook

Horror of horrors this morning: the wireless on my MacBook disappeared. It didn’t get physically removed, it just… vanished. The icon I have on the menu bar just kept saying “No Airport Card installed”. I thought two things: either it’s physically fried, or my daughter’s “tinterneting” (that is, banging the keyboard) has made it pop loose. Both would require a dismantle, and it isn’t a job for the impatient. Thankfully, there was another, less intrusive, thing to try first – …

Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 4: The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood (Wii): COMPLETED!

And breathe! That has to be one of the longest game titles ever! It was new on WiiWare last night, so I downloaded it. Played it a little then, but mostly today – and completed it. I was the shortest of the chapters so far, taking me just two and a half hours to complete. All the other chapters have taken between 5 and 6. However, this was the first one I’d not got stuck on at any point. I …

My Free Wii

(Two Wii posts in one day! It’s like Wii Friday or something!) Remember this? It was the day I bought my Wii.¬¨‚Ć I’d lined up outside Game at half 6 in the morning, and finally – at just after 8am, I had my launch day Wii and was running home as fast as my little legs could carry me. But there was something that happened that day. When I bought my Wii, I paid for it with my credit card. …

Conditionally colouring merge fields in Word

We all know that when you want to do conditional formatting in Office, you use Excel. Right? Or maybe Access. But what if you want to merge some data from Excel into Word, then conditionally format some of the fields? Word doesn’t do conditional formatting! Except, of course, it can. For this I’m going to assume you have some data in Excel. Two columns headed “Data Number” and “Letter”. The Data Number is just 1 to 10, and the Letter …

My Wii RIP, part III

I completely forgot to update everyone on what happened with my dead Wii! Let me just rectify that for you. In Part II, I’d had an email from Nintendo telling me that a bricked-by-homebrew Wii could cost ¬¨¬£200 to repair. Taking it to a local repair shop, I was told that there was little they could do for me, so I bit the bullet and sent it to Codestorm, who do the Wii repairs in the UK. In the covering …

GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony (360)

I’d previously been playing Perfect Dark Zero on my 360, when, after about 6 levels I thought – “Why the hell am I playing this?”. It was rubbish. And I had a billion other better things to play, like this already downloaded ages ago DLC for GTA IV. Whereas the main story was all over the place, but mainly involved Russians, and The Lost and Damned was all bikers and backstabbing, Gay Tony is overblown silliness involving nightclubs and helicopters …
