Fillum review: North by Northwest (1959)
You know, even though I’d not seen this before, the number of take-off and parodies I’d seen in things like The Simpsons and Family Guy made it feel like it was a repeat. Of course, I didn’t really know the plot (and there were a few twists in it anyway), but I started thinking to myself – “this is the bit where…”. Which I suppose is testament to it’s classic film status, really. There are a few jarring special effects …
An interesting look into North Korea
Everyone likes to know about places they can’t go, don’t they? It’s normal curiosity. That’s why kids explore empty houses and caves and wells and stuff, isn’t it? North Korea is one of those places. I know very little about it, apart from that it’s The Evil Half Of Korea. Or so I thought. Thanks to a random post on a forum I read, I was made aware of this fascinating set of videos. A US journalist gets into the …
Thank Goodness You’re Here! (Steam Deck): COMPLETED!
Sometimes, a game comes along which is properly hilarious. Sure, there are funny games, and games with funny events or “player made” hilarity, but it’s rare for a funny game to be this funny. Thank Goodness You’re Here! is what we used to call an arcade adventure game. I suppose, in some ways, it’s the spiritual successor to such British 8-bit computer games as Everyone’s A Wally and Jack the Nipper. You, as a little (although his size randomly changes …
Lucy Dreaming (Switch): COMPLETED!
I do like a nice silly point and click adventure game. Especially with regional British accents. And, hopefully, toilets. WELL WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT, Lucy Dreaming has all those things. Phew, eh? Lucy suffers from nightmares and sets out to get to the root of why, with it seemingly having something to do with a murder in her town many years ago. Lucy can explore her house, and the town, in the usual pointy-clicky way you would with other …
Cat Quest II (Steam Deck): COMPLETED!
Since I enjoyed the first game, and also had a free copy of the second, of course I was going to play that too. It isn’t actually vastly different to the first one, although you now have two characters you can swap between (you’ll never guess that the other one is a dog), and as well as a largely-similar map to Cat Quest OG there’s a whole dog-populated area north of it. Gameplay is mostly as before, although upgrades to …
Syberia 2 (Switch): COMPLETED!
Having finished the first game I went right on and started the second, which was just as well as the first one just ended without a proper final conclusion. The sequel is, as I’d expected, more of the same. Slightly better animation, larger areas, and much more snow, but still Kate Walker being called by her full name while she tries to get her train even further north. The puzzles were mostly on par with the original, although one right …
