I downloaded this last week but never got round to playing it, so while waiting for Track and Field was downloading, I had a play. It’s meh. There’s not really much wrong with it (aside from the silly 3D camera angle), but there’s nothing special about it either. Why, though, is the logo for “Spyglass” not a spyglass at all, but a telescope?
The story in this game really isn’t anywhere near as good as other GTA games. Everything you do seems to be for some tenuous reason. Vic isn’t into drugs, doesn’t want to deal in drugs, and yet almost every mission has him stealing drugs or lining up a drugs heist or something else to do with drugs. And if it isn’t drugs, it’s guns. All to earn money (which Lance seems to be spending faster than you can get it) …
After playing Hide and Seek with some small turtles (or whatever they are), it was time to move on to killing the boss at the end of World 3. It was a thing riding a giant moth. Like the previous bosses, it was pretty easy, and I was soon onto World 4, which is Ice World. So lots of falling ice spikes and slippy floors.
Aces, I thought – I’ve beaten Daren and Neil with my 1356g brain score. Sadly, this was not to be, as not only did Daren post an improved score soon afterwards, but two other people joined my record list and both had 1450+ scores. One is even on over 1600g. Kill them both!
For some reason, that phrase has been in my head all day. I haven’t even heard the Dizzee Rascal song it stems from recently either. It’s driving me nuts.
You know, this is a deceptively deep platformer. In between the platforming and swimming, there are puzzles, spikes (and stars to collect) trapped in blocks you destroy, and a pretty large array of moves. Who knew a starfish could be so agile? I’m up to 3-3 now, and I seem to be hopping around the back of a giant turtle. You know, as you do.

Amazing. You can now play the classic text adventure (or “interactive fiction” as they seem to be called these days) game version of Douglas Adams’ book via an instant messenger client. It uses the Jabber network, but Google Talk is compatible so if you have that (or even just the Google homepage gadget, as shown below) you can play! You know, with “trails” turned off in the graphics options, suddenly everything is a lot better looking. But sadly, still awful. Problems I had today: In one mission, you have to use a fire engine to put out a fire. Controls for the fire engine’s water cannon are circle to fire, and the right stick to aim. I was joust going to have an hour or so of Forza 2 when I realised Tim was online and playing Bomberman Live. “Aha!” I thought, “I can thrash him at that!” And promptly did. By “thrash” I mean, I won what was essentially a very close set of best-of-threes, with me winning 4 sets to 3 overall. But it’s the winning that counts, right? Right.
I won’t go into too much detail of the remainder of the game in case I spoil it for anyone reading, but most of the last hour or so involved beating up, then working with, the townies.
