Lego Jurassic World (PS4): COMPLETED!

My daughter loves Lego games and loves dinosaurs, so it was an obvious choice to get Lego Jurassic World at some point. Even if I do keep calling it Lego Jurassic Park. She’d not seen the films, but the game did mean she could watch the films without being too scared, and we have watched the first one now. One thing I hadn’t realised until we played this is how the T-Rex, rather than being the frightening terror she appears to …

Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition (Wii U): COMPLETED!

No, I hadn’t started this already and no, I didn’t return to another previously started game having finished off Shovel Knight. Just shut up, OK? Shut up. I was rearranging the icons on my Wii U home screen. Like on my 3DS, I have to have them arranged in an OCD friendly manner, where games I’m currently playing or haven’t completed sit on the first screen, and games I have completed or aren’t likely to play any time soon are …

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS): COMPLETED!

Yeah Hilda. You tell me a gooood story. I’m all ears. And not just because I’m an elf thing. Aha. That’s it then – final dungeon done, final final dungeon done, end boss beaten. What a fantastic game. It’s just so perfect in almost every single way, and somehow manages to improve on the Zelda formula by getting rid of most of the linearity, by upping the pacing, and by making it somehow feel both very different and exactly the same as …

Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

That picture there is all the flags, stars and stamps for all of the worlds from 1-8. Or 1-Bowser, if you’re using Nintendo’s eclectic numbering system. Surprisingly, although the hardest level up until then when playing normally and for the first run through, was Grumblump Inferno (the one with the blocks you have to stand on as they roll over lava), and I’d failed to get anything but a finish on it, this time I found it incredibly easy and …

SteamWorld Dig (3DS): COMPLETED!

First game of 2014 to be completed! Woo! I was a big fan of the 360 indie game Miner Dig Deep, and many years ago loved Diggers on the Acorn and Amiga, and it was my enjoyment of those two games that made me want SteamWorld Dig. The stars aligned and I was given some eShop credit just as this was on offer, and so I snapped it up. I’m glad I did. It’s very much in the same vein …

Trip World (3DS): COMPLETED!

On my 3DS home screen, the first “page” of icons is set to be “currently playing, and not yet completed games”. And some other things like Streetpass thingy and the Nintendo Video app. But mainly games I’ve not completed. Completed titles (and games I’ve given up on, demos, other apps, and stuff) are squirrelled away on other pages. Trip World has sat on page one for Far Too Long Now. More than 18 months, in fact. Unplayed because I got …

Super Mario World (Wii U): COMPLETED!

Look at all the little eggies! Look at them! I rescued them all! Woooo! Oh yeah, and the princess. It was certainly harder than I remember, and I’ve only done the main route through the game with very few secret levels – 53 exits in total. The final boss, and the level leading up to him, was far, far easier though. Odd. Now, I realise that to many this is evil heathenry, but I have to say – SMW is …

Games I’ve Been Playing Recently

Yes! Another lazy round-up post 🙂 Skylanders (360) With my daughter. We’re up to world/level/mission/event/chapter 9-ish now. Whichever is the one just after the cyclopseseses. It’s a fun game, but play is disrupted when your co-pilot wants to change characters every 45 seconds. Art of Balance: Touch! (3DS) This was never really on my radar, but a demo was released last week which I really enjoyed. Then it was deal of the week on the eShop so I couldn’t resist. …

2011: The Games

It’s a little later in the year than usual, but, as is traditional, here’s my list of the best games of 2011. Also as previously noted, this is a list of the best five games I played in 2011, not necessarily those that came out then. As is becoming more common, I’m buying games well after release when they’re cheap. 5. escapeVektor (Wii) Criminally overlooked, this WiiWare gem is a fantastic Painter-type arcade game. I played it from start to finish …

Fallout: New Vegas: Old World Blues (360): COMPLETED!

What a fantastic return to the bombed out future of America this was! I had a hankering for some more Fallout, perhaps spurred by news about the next DLC which is out soon, combined with the hype of the impending Skyrim release. I decided on this add-on rather than Honest Hearts as reviews have been more favourable for Old World Blues, and it also seemed less dreary and downbeat. And it was AWESOME. It’s hilarious, for a start. Dr Klein …

Pre-ordering pre-owned games kerfuffle

Quite a few people on Twitter are having a bit of a moan at the moment. No change there. But one of the moaning points today is about Game’s announcement that they’ll be trialling the ability for customers to pre-order pre-owned games. That is, you can order a second-hand copy of a game before the game is even out. Exactly why this is attracting so much vitriol I have no idea. MCV are reporting it as “the first time that …

2010: The Games

So it comes the time to round up my top five games from 2010. As is always the case, a lot of games I actually played in 2010 were, in fact, from previous years. The result of which means that my Top 5 Games of 2010 is really my Top 5 Games That May Have Come Out In 2010 But There’s A Chance They May Have Been Released At Some Point Previous And For That I Apologise. Oh yes, and …
