Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam (Wii)

For reasons not entirely well known, I started playing this today. Well, started again. You see, I bought it with my launch Wii, but having only recently – at the time – hammered the “proper” Tony Hawk games (which I love) the different controls and mechanics just put me off. Odd, since they never bothered me in the DS version. Anyway, I’m actually enjoying it. It’s not perfect, but it’s fun and surprisingly controllable. And so it came to pass …

Creating Dress-Up Mannequins in Illustrator

I’ve created a helpsheet for everyone who has ever wanted to create digital dress-up dolls! This shows how to import images to use as fills for clothing, so you can scan in some material and use if as a dress or something! [issuu layout=http%3A%2F%2Fskin.issuu.com%2Fv%2Flight%2Flayout.xml showflipbtn=true documentid=091126100916-9a77928acc34455fb42f78bedaf9efc0 docname=creating_dress-up_mannequins username=deKay loadinginfotext=Creating%20Dress-Up%20Mannequins%20in%20Illustrator width=420 height=297 unit=px] (Download the PDF here: Creating Dress-Up Mannequins) I realise this may seem like a bit of a random thing for me to produce, but it was something I …

Penny Arcade Episode 2 (360): COMPLETED!

It seemed shorter and easier than the previous episode (particularly the walk-over of a final boss), but it was still great. There was less to-ing and fro-ing than last time, which was a big improvement. It seemed to come at the cost of loading times though – it takes TEN MINUTES to load the game, which is utterly ridiculous!

Volume Erase Failed

I tried to format a Buffalo 1TB external hard drive on my Mac today, to HFS+ (journalled). But it failed, over and over again with the error “Volume Erase Failed with the error: The underlying task reported failure on exit”. It was a brand new drive, already formatted as FAT, so I assumed it was faulty. Turns out, however, there’s a simple reason for it not working: you can’t format HFS+ partitions on certain external hard drives if the boot …

Lit (Wii): COMPLETED!

The level before the final boss was a real pain. Lots of sweeping lights, most of which need to be turned off as well as on, and many only just in reach (meaning a million accidental I-walked-too-far deaths). Needless to say, I was relieved when it was over. And then the final boss. He was… reasonably easy. He’s the only boss where the entire fight requires pixel-perfect positioning and exact timing, all at speed. Thankfully, I realised you don’t have …

Lit (Wii)

Spent most of today’s play trying to beat the Gym boss. It didn’t help that every time he threw a ball at me, all I could think of was “BOMBARDMENT!”. And he was hard. I’m pretty sure the main reason I managed to beat him was by fluke.

Play New Super Chick Sisters

It’s like Super Mario Bros, only with a message from PETA. That’s right kids – McDonalds kill animals and feed them to you! Mmm, tasty! OK, so they might be cruel when they do it, but think – if they weren’t cruel, we’d have no New Super Chick Sisters. And then what sort of a world would we live in? Controls are arrow keys and space. And no, you can’t shoot the chickens. I tried.

Lit (Wii)

I’ve been playing this quite a lot over the last week or so. I saw the (short and uninformative) trailer a while ago and thought it looked good, but didn’t really know what to expect in terms of gameplay. Turns out it’s great! It’s sort of the opposite of my least favourite sort of game ever – stealth. Instead of staying hidden in the dark, you have to stay in the light, lighting areas of the room to reach the …

Sam & Max: Season One (Wii): COMPLETED!

All six episodes too! All done! Hurrah! It was very good. There were a few puzzles that didn’t seem to have logical solutions, and the “end boss” was a real pain and had me stuck for about an hour, but I figured it out eventually. Over all, very funny, enjoyable, and I’m certainly looking forward to Season Two when it’s released in a couple of weeks.
