Pit Crew Panic!

So this would normally be on my Gaming Diary, but it’s a little different and marks both the first proper use of my new camcorder, and the first time I’ve uploaded a video to YouTube. I give you, then, a video of me playing Pit Crew Panic! on the Wii.¬¨‚Ć Oh Lord.

BBC Rant: The Complainening

I just sent this off to the BBC: (This complaint also covers the reporting of the same story on BBC TV and radio) I find it disgusting that the BBC would report on a story like this in such a poorly researched manner, effectively scaremongering and propagating untruths. The real news story is that some companies (both at home at abroad) are supplying Nintendo DS consoles with power supplies that are not tested to British Standards. Also, some companies sell …

The HM Customs/BBC fact-free report

This is where lies become fact, isn’t it? Parents warned on fake consoles (BBC) Lets just ignore the woman from HM Customs who doesn’t have a clue what she’s talking about, and doesn’t seem to know how to answer questions coherently either, and just move on to the subject. It would appear that Nintendo has been complaining that people have been buying DS consoles abroad for less money than they are over here in rip-off Britain. However, since ordering the …

New camera shinyness

After what must be around 6 years of loyal service, the time has come to finally replace my ageing (and broken once and repaired) Canon IXUS II digital camera. Well, I say replace – it isn’t going anywhere. I just wanted a new one. Yes, even having just bought a new camcorder. There was nothing especially wrong with the IXUS. It takes good quality pictures, is pretty quick, and has plenty of options and functions I rarely even needed. It …

Redirecting Application Data causes IE settings headaches

The time came to finally trial redirecting user Application Data folders to a network share, rather than have them roam on the network. I knew how to do it, but it never seemed to work properly, so I’d not done it previously. This week, I gave it another crack. And it works! Sort of. Unfortunately, although it correctly maps Application Data back to the server, all the settings in Internet Explorer (like the branding and, most importantly, proxy stuff) fail …

It’s the Final Countdown

Well, it isn’t really a countdown, as usual practice with countdowns involves starting at a number and count down to zero. But although “28” is the start figure, it might stop before 0. Or after.¬¨‚Ć It’s just a guideline! What am I talking about? Expected Baby Arrival Day, of course! Today marks the beginning of the final 4 weeks. Are we ready? Of course not.

The new Xbox Dashboard

I don’t like it.¬¨‚Ć Not only because I installed it accidentally, but also because it keeps freezing and the Marketplace is broken.¬¨‚Ć And I can’t find anything. And so much just seems pointless. I’m not saying the old dashboard was perfect, as it wasn’t. But this is bad in a different way. Thankfully, the install-to-hard-drive option makes the pain more bearable. It really speeds up the loading times on Fallout 3, and reports are saying that the difference it makes …

Dear Microsoft

The new Xbox 360 dashboard is available as of today. I don’t care for it, to be honest, but it’s a manditory “upgrade” so I’ll have to get it eventually.¬¨‚Ć I’m waiting until I know for sure it won’t make my 360 explode. Anyway, for giggles, I emailed Microsoft technical support: Hi there, I see that you can now set up Miis on the Xbox 360. Since I already have a Mii on my Wii, is there any way of …

New camcorder shinyness

My new camcorder, despite Pixmania and Parcel Force’s best attempts to thwart it, arrived today! I’ve got myself a Canon MV30. There was much reading and weighing up the pros and cons of various HD camcorders, but I finally decided that the MV30 was the best choice. It’s had some excellent reviews, isn’t horrendously expensive (although it was pushing ¬¨¬£600!) and works well with iMovie on the Mac, which I’ll be using. The only concern I really had was that …

The return of Sky

We’ve got Virgin Media cable TV, and, ooh, 18 months or so ago they had a slight argument with BSkyB. The outcome was that Sky threw their toys out of the pram and withdrew all their channels from Virgin’s service.¬¨‚Ć They expected everyone to ditch Virgin as a result, but, of course, many people barely even noticed. It’s not like Sky are the pinnacle of quality programming. In fact, the only thing I noticed was the lack of The Simpsons …

Exchanging items for my identity

I placed an order with Pixmania last night. Nothing strange in that, aside from the fact I’d normally steer well clear because of the times I (and other people I know) have dealt with them only to have stuff arrive with French power cables and German manuals.¬¨‚Ć But the thing I wanted was substantially cheaper from them, and when you’re saving almost ¬¨¬£100, you make concessions. Which was a mistake, it seems. Ignoring the virtually-impossible-to-remove “loyalty card” and “Zen extended …

Listen to my baby

No, it isn’t born yet. It’s just over 34 weeks into the pregnancy, and we went for our regular checkup with the midwife today. She used the baby heart monitor thing again, and this time I recorded it on my phone. It’s less wakka-wakka than it was, but it’s still amazing. Baby at 34 weeks

Football Manager 2009

According to someone on a newsgroup (and I pretty much agree), Football Manager is more or less a role playing game. It’s all the stats and stuff, innit. And now here’s Football Manager 2009. Perhaps this time the text on the 360 version will be large enough to read? No wait – it’s a Sega game. They don’t fix problems with successive releases, the exacerbate them. Anyway!
