Lemmings Touch (Vita)

No. What, you want me to expand on that? Erm. I’ll try: Lemmings Touch utterly ruins how Lemmings works by reversing the order you command your lemmings. In the proper, unbroken and excellent games, you click on what you want a lemming to do, then click on one or more lemmings to do that task or become that sort of lemming. It’s intuitive and it works. In this game, you tap on a lemming then a circle of options comes …

Melbits World (Switch): COMPLETED!

Bought on a whim because it was $1 as a download voucher from Target a while back, I really wasn’t sure what sort of game this was. From videos, it seemed to be much like Captain Toad, but in fact it’s just the graphical style and isometric view that it shares with that. What it actually is, is something closer to old Game and Watch titles like Mario’s Cement Factory, crossed with Lemmings, only in multiplayer and 3D. You have …

Top 10 Game Boy Advance Games

Ah, the Game Boy Advance. To many, a portable SNES without enough buttons to effectively be a portable SNES, and one with a screen invisible in all but the glow of a 100W lightbulb. That didn’t stop it from having arguably the best catalogue of games of any system, however, and with the lit screen of the GBA SP (further refined in the GB Micro), it became and remains my favourite handheld ever. And I loved my DS and 3DS a lot. …

Top 10 Mega Drive Games

Of every games console or computer I’ve ever owned, the Sega Mega Drive is probably my favourite. It was my first console, and the one I own most games for. It also saw me through most of university, despite the N64, Saturn and PS1 all having just come out – I obviously didn’t have any money to buy them. It wasn’t until the end of 1999 that I bought something newer, meaning I’d had a full 8 years of Megadriving. …

Lots of Homebrew Wii Stuff (Wii)

I checked the Homebrew Downloader today for the first time in ages, and found all sorts of new stuff on there. WiiLander was great – it’s an old game, sure, but with the Wii’s controls (tilt left and right to steer, rotate remote to provide more or less thrust) it plays very differently. Giddy 3 is a Dizzy clone, and although it looks nice the only item I could find to pick up was a tub of lard, and I …

Miner Dig Deep (360)

My first purchased Community Game! Some guy on rllmuk was going on about it, and he made it sound like Diggers, a game I used to play on the Acorn. Having played the trial of it for a while, I realised that it was, in fact, quite a lot like Diggers. You don’t control diggers like Lemmings, instead having direct control over a single miner. However, most of the other bits of the game are there – mine for ore, …

Nintendo Puzzle Collection

Another game that arrived today. Well, collection of games, at any rate: Puzzle de Pon, Dr. Mario, and Yoshi no Cookie. Played all three with my wife this evening. There’s a few problems with running it on PAL Gamecube with Freeloader, in that some of the Japanese text appears as gibberish (no, real gibberish), meaning I can’t read it even if I could understand the Japanese. Puzzle de Pon was probably the best of the three. It has a new …
