Major site changes incoming!

I’ve decided (just like that, obviously) to migrate my entire lofi-gaming site over to WordPress. Well, most of it. There are a few bits that will remain as Fabulous deKay PHP, but the vast majority of pages will see the move. Why? Because most of my site is never updated. I don’t get the time to fiddle with PHP and having a CMS instead makes updating much quicker and more likely to happen. It also means I can do it …

Bioshock 2 (360): COMPLETED!

At a rough guess, I think I’ve put around 18 hours into this. My understanding is you can complete it in under 10, but since I have OCD, I had to search everywhere, examine everything, access every bit of the map, open every door, hack every machine, rescue every Little Sister, max out every research track, buy every plasmid and gene tonic slot, and listen to every audio diary. I even found myself using up ammo just so I could …

Delivery from Deal Extreme

Have you ever bought anything from Deal Extreme? They’re the internet’s premier provider of shoddy Chinese tat. And quality Chinese tat, of course. Sometimes there are things I need to buy, and they’re the only place I can find it cheap, but then I end up adding other useless junk to the shopping basket while I’m there. A couple of weeks ago, my cheap-and-shoddy iPhone dock (bought from Deal Extreme) died, so I needed another. So back on the site …

WebMarshal “3003” errors

If, like us, you have WebMarshal, and it’s tied to an SQL Server Express database, you may find it sometimes just… breaks. You’ll get eventlog messages like “3003:  Failed to write session to database” and “PRIMARY filegroup is full” and “Could not allocate space for object ‘dbo.DomainFileLog’”. Chances are, your database is full. The Express version of SQL Server 2005 is nice because it’s free, but it does limit database sizes to just 4GB. This may sound huge, but for …

The Apple iPad

A couple of weeks ago, we took receipt of a shiny new iPad at work. And I’ve been testing it. And it is very shiny. Did I mention it was shiny? Because it is. Very. The haters are quick to point out that it’s just a big iPod Touch. Which it is, only that’s missing the point. Other haters (or the same ones) say it’s very expensive. Which (again) it is, and (again), that’s missing the point too. Others too …

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)

How can so many amazing ideas be crammed into one game? Some levels in Super Mario Galaxy 2 have more fantastic, original, gameplay ideas than most entire games. Even more amazing, is how they managed this even after already filling an entire game with them! I’m now up to 24 stars collected, on the 3rd “World” (you can’t really have worlds containing galaxies, can you?), and really loving it. It’s still very easy though – easier than the original was …

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 (iPhone)

TONY HAWK. He’s the best guy ever! Well, maybe Tom Jones is better. Hmm. But he’s still GREAT, and his games (aside from RIDE, but we’ll just forget that one…) are GREAT. And THPS2 is one of the MOST GREAT games. And now it’s on the iPhone! Amazing!  Surprisingly, it works really well. Controls are great (and I generally hate virtual d-pads and buttons), and pulling off tricks isn’t any harder than I remember from the Dreamcast and PC versions. …

Sandisk 2GB Wii SD card – and win one!

I was sent a Wii SD Card this week (actually, three), and last night got to try one out. So, here is a review. Yes, a review of a piece of plastic and silicon the size of a postage stamp! Amazing. The first thing you’ll notice is that, unlike most SD cards, the SanDisk for Wii card is white. Like the Wii. Little known fact: the Wii itself, its power supply, the  SD card shaped. Check yours – I’m right! …

Mass Effect 2 Demo

I pretty much ignored the original Mass Effect on release, but somehow acquired it anyway (then forgot I’d done so). Then, when the sequel came out, it sparked interest in the first game. How lucky for me, then, it was on my shelf all along! I played through it earlier this year, then a month ago I got the sequel for my birthday. I hope to play it soon, once BioShock 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Zelda: Twilight …

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)

For just one level. For a reason. I have my daughter to thank for buying me the game, which ordinarily I’d have had to have waited months and months for, since it’d take an age to drop in price to below my self-imposed £20 limit. But that level? Glorious. Blue skies, happy music, bopping Goombas, bright colours and everything lovely about great games. Hurrah!

Wii Woe

What with today being Father’s Day and everything, I got a present from my daughter – Super Mario Galaxy 2! Although she seemed to want to keep it for herself and kept running off with it. When I tried to play it, however, things went wrong. As is always the case with Wii games now, I install them to my USB hard drive and run them from there. So I opened up the USB Loader and put the disc in. …

Bioshock 2 (360)

Since completing Lego Indiana Jones 2, Bioshock 2 is pretty much the only game I’ve played. I’ve not played it terribly far in, either, having only picked up the film camera about an hour’s play ago, and I’ve only just finished the Sinclair Hotel bit. I don’t know how far that puts me through the game, but if I assume the train line map is an indication, then perhaps a quarter? Things I’m liking so far: It’s Bioshock. Mostly. Only …
