Run Baby Run Levels

The original set of five levels for Run Baby Run were fantastic. No, they were better than fantastic. But, after 20 years worth of play, they did become a little, er, familiar. Thankfully, Dunny, one of the nice chaps that writes the Speccy emulator SPIN wrote a marvelous level editor. You can get that on the Level Editor page. Here, however, are a pile of new RBR levels I’ve created with the editor. Some of these level designs have been …

Birthday meme

OK. I’m not sure of the point of this, but anyway: Look up your birthday in Wikipedia. Pick 4 events, 3 births, 2 deaths, and 1 holiday. May 15th Events 1718 – James Puckle, a London lawyer, patents the world’s first machine gun. 1756 – The Seven Years’ War begins when England declares war on France. 1940 – World War II: After fierce fighting, the poorly trained and equipped Dutch troops surrender to Germany, marking the beginning of five years …

Grand Theft Auto IV (360)

Mainly spent my time on vigilante missions today, getting the achievement for taking down 20 criminals found on the police computer, and then completing all the Algonquin “Most Wanted” missions. After that I did Gravelli’s (or whatever his name is – old bloke in the hospital) next mission – blowing up some vans filled with cocaine. I took an indirect route around some rooftops, which made it much easier than it originally looked. Then I retried Phil’s mission getting some …

Grand Theft Auto IV (360)

First off today I did my first Assassin mission, followed by the rest of them in quick succession. They were all pretty easy, and doing all nine netted me an achievement. I then did a couple of missions for Jimmy, and found a guy on the street I’d met in the game previously and did a “side-mission” with him. Or rather, shot him. Then I stole some cars (and bikes) for Brucie, took Little Jacob and Dwayne out for meals, …

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground (360)

So I got my subwoofer working today. Good grief does it make a difference! Every skate-check gets a heavy thump, bailing makes a deep crunch, even aggro kicking gets a meaty whoomph from the speaker. Excellent! As far as the game went, I (again) beat a few more street challenges, and then mopped up some more Classic and Hawk-Man goals. The Museum Classic goals were bloody difficult, although really shouldn’t have been. Could I natas spin the switches to turn …

Eternal Sonata (360)

It’s far too easy to spend lots of time on this without realising. I started early this afternoon, and then suddenly it was dark outside. Chapter 2 was soon over. I had to fight Tuba again on the bridge by the fort, and although I won, he took out the bridge and we all fell to our watery deaths. Well, not quite. The beginning of Chapter 3 showed that my party had been split into two groups. Allegretto, Viola, Jazz, …

Half-Life 2 (360)

Played through a bit more of this this morning. There was a huge section on an air boat thing, which did seem to go on for longer than it really needed too, ending in a fight with the helicopter that had been chasing me for most of the game so far. After that, I found Eli’s lab, with Alyx inside, and spent a while playing catch with Dog – a robot. I could play catch, since I had been given …

Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

I am now 23 stars in, and, so far, I haven’t had a single thing I didn’t like. I did worry that the whole gravity-on-small-planets thing might detract from the game in some way, but it really doesn’t – it just feels like a natural progression from Mario 64. An extra dimension, if you will. And it’s all just so… fantastic!

Eets: Chowdown (360)

Hmm. I didn’t like all the in-the-dark stuff of some of the levels today. I know it just adds another element to the puzzles, but it made my brane hurt. Anyway, I’m about a third of the way through the penultimate zone (or world, or planet, or whatever) now, and things are getting really brain-warpy now, with gravity flippers and levitation thingies. I have managed the “10 levels with two items remaining” achievement though, which is ace. And I’m 99th …

3D Ultra Minigolf (360)

There were two new games on XBLA today, this and Gyruss. For some reason, I felt compelled to buy this though. It’s good. There are issues with collision detection, ball physics, random acts of gravity, and camera angles, but it’s a reasonably good fun crazy golf game with some totally bizarre holes – like ones set in space. I played a few games online (and lost), and also played “Traveller” mode, coming 4th overall with a score of, erm, 32 …

Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii)

This game is completely insane. During today’s play, I raced around on the back of a warthog, milked a cow, made rabbits run into cacti, played What’s the Time, Mr. Wolf?, collected pigs as a bat, run round a graveyard shooting plungers at things, danced to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” whilst dressed as a goth, and pounded a bunny’s head in with a hammer. As you do. It’s a great game, mainly because it is so completely, utterly, nuts.

Serious Sam: Next Encounter (GC): COMPLETED!

Erm, so there’s only three “chapters”? Oh well. The last one started off in some sort of snowy wasteland, then moved underground to the Lost City of Atlantis, then moved through some caves, some strange gravity-warping temples, and finally into an alien spaceship. I can see, actually, that Prey nicked a few ideas from this game too, with the wall-walking and stuff. The last few levels were pretty difficult, as health pickups became fewer and baddies increased in number (and …

Prey (360)

It was cheap (from PlayAsia), so I bought it. I do like it, as it’s a bit different to other FPS games, due mainly to the portals and gravity-altering thingies. I’m up to Chapter 7 or so now. I haven’t had an especially difficult time yet, not least because when you die, you don’t actually die – you have this minigame where you shoot down bat things to get health back. As you do. I just wish Tommy (the hero) …

Orbital (GBA): COMPLETED!

I only had three more levels left to do, it seemed. Level 28 was a real pain, 29 was quite hard, and 30 (the last one) was actually pretty simple, if a little brain bending due to the gravity effects of so many planets in orbit around each other. So then there was the credits, and now it seems I’ve unlocked some Extra Mode levels. Hurrah! I didn’t actually want it so end so soon!
