Weekend Catch Up Fighter II Turbo X

Well, it’s whole week really, not just a weekend. I have recently played these: Guitar Hero World Tour (360)Meh. It’s very Meh now. And Meh isn’t good. Some of the tracks are OK, but very few are excellent. And what’s with all the country and western? Pah. Street Fighter IV (360)I’m rubbish. Really rubbish. Even on Easy I’m having difficulty beating Seth. And El Fuerte is the most ridiculous to control character ever, Ever! Scribblenauts (DS)Still excellent and hilarious. Funny …

My new Megadrive

Play Asia started selling these recently. They look like a Megadrive variant of the many Famicom “famiclones” out there, but they’re not – they’re officially licenced by Sega! And they’re really cheap too, coming in at under ¬¨¬£20. You get 20 games built into the unit, but it also has a cartridge slot to play original (and forthcoming re-released) cartridges. I tested it with quite a few games of varying geographic origin, and aside from the UK version of Street …

Streets of Rage 2 (360)

Hmm. Things are not going so well now. I lost two continues trying to kill the boss that looks like Blanka from Street Fighter II, and so have made it to Level 5 with just two lives (and no more continues, it seems) left. I then had a go on Versus Mode on Xbox Live. Sadly, it is totally broken. If you host, you win. The reason? If you’re not hosting, all of your movements are delayed by almost a …

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology (PS2)

After finishing the first game, I thought I’d have a look through the other titles on the disc. I used to play Alpha 2 a bit a uni too, but not as much as the first one for some reason. It’s still great, and yes, it’s technically better than Alpha, but I think maybe it’s just down to what I knew and loved first. Anyway, I played a few rounds, again as Kenneth for the main part. And doesn’t Dan …

Street Fighter Alpha (PS2): COMPLETED!

I bought the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology pack for the PS2 yesterday, and put it on today for a quick play. Of course, the “quick play” turned into the completion of Alpha with Kenneth. Who is, naturally, the best of all the animals. I’d forgotten how much I like this game. I used to play it for hours at university on the Saturn – literally hours playing Ken vs Ryu against a flatmate. HOURS. Of Ken vs Ryu. Good grief.

Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting (360)

I played this quite a bit more, mainly on Ranked Matches against random people. I didn’t do too badly either, as it turned out – playing 20 matches and winning 14 of them. There was a huge divide between the attitudes of the UK and US players. Generally, UK players will say “Oh, too bad!” if you lose, and “Well played!” if you win. US players will say “WTF? You cheated! You can’t do that move! That isn’t allowed! I’m …

Mario’s Picross (3DS): COMPLETED!

I haven’t actually added up all the puzzles that there are, but it’s over 150. Probably 200-ish. But now, they’re all done! I was expecting another set of puzzles after completing the Star ones, since there’s a gap on the screen where I thought another option would appear. One did, but it was just a time trial option and used the same puzzles as I’d already done. So, completed then! And it’s also logged as my 3rd most played 3DS …

3DS Update!

I have more thoughts about the actual games over on my Gaming Diary, but here are some more comments about the handheld itself. First of all, I love it. Everything about it. It’s such a lovely, lovely device. The screens are bright, the 3D adds loads to the games (and even just the menus and stuff), and the extras already installed are great. I’ve been playing through Super Street Fighter IV and logging which characters I’ve completed it as in …

The 3DS is Here

Actually, it arrived yesterday. It’s very shiny. And very, very impressive. I’m amazed at the difference a bit of 3D makes to games – those on other consoles suddenly look very flat and “wrong”. Even just the subtly 3D menus, splash screens, and “screen furniture” make the games more alive. No doubt over the next few days I’ll post more of my thoughts, but here’s a brainjumble purge to be getting on with: The console Surprisingly small. It’s supposed to …

Explaining the bad thing

The other day I posted a cryptic picture of a bit of an online Asda order, but didn’t explain it. Of course, some of you guessed: I had indeed ordered a 3DS. And two games. Ssshh! It’s a secret to everybody! You (as in, James Luff) may be wondering how I pulled off this cheeky stunt with the £18 Rule in full effect. Well, here’s how. Warning! May contain maths: Base cost of 3DS on Asda’s website: £217 Cost of …

Why I’m buying a 3DS

Since the release of the original Game Boy Advance, I’ve leapt on every Nintendo console on (or before!) launch. Why should this change with the release of Nintendo’s new 3D fancy DS followup? Answer: it shouldn’t. And here’s 5 reasons why I’ll be getting one on release day: 5. The games. If you believe, they will come. The same is always true of Nintendo consoles. New Super Mario Bros, Professor Layton, Ouendan, Hotel Dusk, Another Code, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. …

Guitar Hero World Tour (360)

After I dropped off my broken Wii at the post office yesterday, I went next door to Blockbuster and accidentally bought Guitar Hero World Tour and Street Fighter IV in a two for £30 deal. And? Well, it’s Guitar Hero. Only with a pants setlist. Also, I know that it’s now a full-band title so some tracks will be better for guitar than others, but tracks like No Sleep Til Brooklyn actually allow the guitar player to sleep through. It’s …
