Hyrule Warriors (Wii U): COMPLETED!

I hope my B, and to a slightly lesser extent, Y buttons are OK. In my twelve hours running through the main Legend Mode campaign, I’ve pressed them rather a lot. I don’t think they’re worn out, but not since I played one of those “shooting watch” games have I hit a button so many times. Mash mash mash mash mash. BBY. BBBY. BBBBY. Other variations, peppered with ZR (bombs, usually) and the odd X to pull off a special …

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (Wii U): COMPLETED!

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is an updated version of the original Guacamelee, with new areas and a new boss and some other new stuff. Apparently. I don’t know exactly what is new as I’ve never played the original. Or even been interested in it. When it came out over a year ago, I barely paid it a passing glance. Yeah, it looked quite nice, but was a PS3 title so it dropped off my radar and I forgot about …

Things I’ve been playing recently

Euro Truck Simulator 2 (PC) My first ever Steam Sale purchase! Sadly, it isn’t as great as I thought it was going to be. The graphics are flatter and drabber than videos had led me to believe, the roads are samey and short, and you’ve little choice in the routes you have to take. Still, driving all the cars off the road on the way to Belgium, then running down all the Belgians when you get there, never gets old. …

Scram Kitty and His Buddy on Rails (Wii U)

A very nice person out there sent me a copy of this for my birthday, which luckily I received just a couple of hours before I was going to buy it anyway. Phew, eh? A few years ago, probably when I got my free subscription to PS+ for that Sony hacking thing that happened just as I got my PS3, I played a game called “The 2D Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character”. You were an octopus that stuck to platforms …

NES Remix 2 (Wii U): COMPLETED

I loved the original NES Remix. Even though several of the included games were, er, not of the best quality (Pinball, Clu-Clu Land, Urban Champion, Golf), the package was fun and the challenges were great. Getting Remix 2 was always going to happen. And it happened! And all was good. The selection of titles this time round seems much better. That’s not surprising as Nintendo have picked some later NES titles for this sequel – Metroid, Super Mario Bros 2 …

Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara (Wii U): COMPLETED

Firstly, it seems this is just half of the “Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara” game on the Wii U eShop. It’s a conversion of the 90’s coin-op, and is the sequel to D&D: Tower of Doom, which is also included in the package but isn’t selected by default and isn’t actually obvious that it’s there at all. At some point I’ll be playing that. The main reason, aside from it being on offer this week, for getting D&D:COM at …

New Super Mario Bros U (Wii U)

And that’s it. All done. Every level completed, Nabbit Nabbed on every world, every Star Coin in every level, every level on Superstar Road unlocked, completed, and coins grabbed, and the final level unlocked and done. All five stars now adorn my saved game. And what a superb game. I loved it from start to finish, never felt the coin hunt was “filler”, never found a single level – regardless of how difficult – that I didn’t think was doable, …

2011: The Games

It’s a little later in the year than usual, but, as is traditional, here’s my list of the best games of 2011. Also as previously noted, this is a list of the best five games I played in 2011, not necessarily those that came out then. As is becoming more common, I’m buying games well after release when they’re cheap. 5. escapeVektor (Wii) Criminally overlooked, this WiiWare gem is a fantastic Painter-type arcade game. I played it from start to finish …

Adventure Island (3DS): COMPLETED!

This was up on the 3DS VC this week. I wasn’t going to get it, as I had other things to be playing, but when I hopped on to the eShop to see what else was newly available, I suddenly got the urge to play it. An hour and a half later, I’d finished it. I actually really enjoyed it. Sure, it’s a bit simple. Yes, it’s pretty easy (especially the bosses – if you’ve got a dinosaur to ride …

A post about video games

Hello! It’s been a little while since I last posted anything, mainly because I’ve been busy. Thought I’d just mention a few upcoming games that’s I’m really looking forward to, and some other game related stuff. It’s been a slim few months for releases I’ve been interested in. Partly because there haven’t been that many big games over the summer, and partly because due to the £18 Rule I don’t get much on release any more and by the time …

My CGC Entries

Over the years, I’ve entered a few games into the comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Competition myself. Never won (or should that be lost?) mind. Perhaps my games were too good? Read below for the actual games, or skip over to the last page to play them! Octopus Lite (1999) This is my Speccy conversion of an old Nintendo Game and Watch game called (spookily) Octopus. The idea is to guide your little man down to the treasure, nab it and return …

The £18 Game Challenge

A year ago I dropped the bar on The £25 Game Challenge – prohibiting myself from buying any game that was more than £20. It was called (amazingly) The £20 Game Challenge. Now, the bar drops lower – to £18! Why? Two reasons. Firstly, I broke the £20 Rule once last year, by buying the Collectors’ Edition of Fallout: New Vegas. The lovely, lovely Collectors’ Edition of Fallout: New Vegas. For this impudence I must atone! Secondly, I think it’s …

Sonic Adventure (360)

I’ve completed it $hlmun times. I still think it’s the second best 3D Sonic game. I bought it last week when it was on offer, and have been playing through as Sonic. At first, I thought, what? This is utter rubbish. I don’t remember it being this rubbish! I fell through the floor in the same place on the first level on my first go and lost all my lives. WHAT? RUBBISH! But then, despite Tails’ appearance and the (let’s …

Fallout: New Vegas: Dead Money (360): COMPLETED!

Now you see, I wasn’t going to buy the first lot of DLC for New Vegas for two reasons. One, I thought I’d give another game a chance, and two, if Oblivion and Fallout 3 are anything to go by then it’ll come down in price in a few months. Of course, since when has saying I’m not going to buy something ever meant anything? Of course I bought it the day it was available. And today I completed it. …

Dell online sales chat

I was trying to navigate round the Dell website today to find information on, then spec up, a particular model of PC. At every turn, on every page load, and every time I let go of the mouse for 7 seconds, this appeared: I kept clicking “No Thanks”, but a page change or reload and it was back. This annoyed me a bit. Well, a lot. So I decided to chat with them. Here’s the transcript (with the “Dell Expert”‘s …
