The First Wii U Post

My Wii U arrived! So I spent most of the weekend playing it and the games I got with it. Nintendo Land It’s not a minigame collection. No matter who tells you it is, it isn’t. It’s a collection, sure, but some of the games are full, proper games. Take the Pikmin Adventure game. It’s Pikmin. Sure, it’s not got all the item collecting and night-time save-all-the-pikmin bits, but it’s a complete and reasonably long “campaign”. Single player only game …

A post about video games

Hello! It’s been a little while since I last posted anything, mainly because I’ve been busy. Thought I’d just mention a few upcoming games that’s I’m really looking forward to, and some other game related stuff. It’s been a slim few months for releases I’ve been interested in. Partly because there haven’t been that many big games over the summer, and partly because due to the £18 Rule I don’t get much on release any more and by the time …

Sonic Adventure (360)

I’ve completed it $hlmun times. I still think it’s the second best 3D Sonic game. I bought it last week when it was on offer, and have been playing through as Sonic. At first, I thought, what? This is utter rubbish. I don’t remember it being this rubbish! I fell through the floor in the same place on the first level on my first go and lost all my lives. WHAT? RUBBISH! But then, despite Tails’ appearance and the (let’s …

The CSS Crap Games Competition

About The Competition Every year, the cheery folk that inhabit CSS relive the ‘excitement’ of such god-awful releases for the Spectrum such as Cascade Cassette 50 – a tape containing 50 BASIC games, none of which were even slightly good. These chaps and chapesses turn their programming hand (or sometimes, foot, it would seem) to producing the worst game known to man. Marks are awarded for pointlessness, bugs and lack of playability, and deducted for realism, programming skill, and lack …

The Wonderful World of Worky-Not

Yes, it does sound rather like a nasty place visiting the top of the Magic Faraway Tree, doesn’t it? Sadly, it seems to be where I’ve been living for the last few weeks. Last weekend, my Virgin Media TV set top box went all wonky and none of the interactive or on-demand thingies on it worked. I managed to fix it myself (turned out it was cables), but we’re so reliant on the Catch Up TV facility that we rarely …

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (DS)

I will start by pointing out my “stats” at the end of today’s play: 6-ish hours in, Level 30-ish ranked, and (wait for it…) 455% explored. Why bother with a percentage if you’re going to go over 100%? Eh? Anyway. I finished my fourth painting, and then explored more of the castle. This involved back-tracking into other paintings for power-ups I may have missed (like the Toad Morph one), and then I made it up into the Clock Tower. Every …

Viva Pinata (360)

Haven’t played this in a while. My Wii came along and my 360 pretty much got forgotten. But I’ve been meaning to get back into Viva Pinata, so I did. Today was filled with breeding. I managed to become Master Romancer for about 8 different species, including Kittyfloss and Syrupents, and also made (and Master Romanced) Lackatoads, Twingersnaps, and Four Heads. The result of all this was that I got three achievements – one for reaching Level 50 (I’m at …

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)

Another half an hour of searching later, and I finally found one of the tears. The thing about the tears, you see, is they’re pale blue and the size of a pea. The thing about the floor of Frostfire Glade, is it’s pale blue. So basically, you can’t see them unless you walk around randomly, looking at the floor the whole time. After finding the first, I managed to find the other four within about 20 minutes or so. After …

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)

Spent a while producing scamps and skeletons to raise up my Conjuration stats a bit, and then decided to go to Cheydinhal, since I’d never been there before and it’s the location of the next bit of the Thieves Guild questline. To get there, I warped to Imperial City, and the set off East on foot. Had a few bandits to contend with on the road, but they were easily killed with the help of a scamp! Explored Cheydinhal for …

Hello Kitty Roller Rescue

A cute rocket firing, wheeled baddie thing to kill (who was easy), and onto another level of more cute stuff. I’ve been asked, “Doesn’t the cuteness in Hello Kitty Roller Rescue make you want to vomit your kidneys up?”. And to that person, I say: “Yes. Yes it does. Through my eyes.” There was a car park level, and I rescued a cute toy car thing. Had to find it some cute batteries, but soon it was smashing through walls …

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages: TOPPLED!

The rest of Dungeon 8 was pretty easy, and I was soon onto the end boss (after picking up the Power Glove). He came in several forms, or rather, with several sets of hands – a bit like a boss from The Wind Waker. Sort of. The final set of hands required the newly-acquired glove to defeat too. What a shock that was. After that, and with all eight Essences of Time in Link’s Magic Invisible Bottomless Rucksack, it was …

Sonic Adventure DX

Three more action stages complete with Sonic. Or is it four? They all kind of went blurry. Icecap, Twinkle Park, and Speed Highway (or something) all finished. Found a gold Chao egg too, and hatched that. Really should name my Chaos now, since only Chewy has a name. Oh yes, and did Sky Chase too. Which was easy. In fact, the whole game has been easy so far. Even the boss battle against Chaos 4 (what happened to Chaos 1-3 …
