New Super Mario Bros (DS)

With all the worlds technically “complete”, I’m left with two tasks: get all the big coins (there are three hidden on each level), and spend them all (on opening gates, mainly). Went through World 1 and World 2, and now have all of the coins there. I also have all bar those in the Tower and Castle in World 3 as well. Some of them have been pretty difficult to get too – this is obviously where the real challenge …

New Super Mario Bros (DS)

It’s the first proper 2D Mario game in 15 years. And it arrived today. And… it’s fantastic! Spent about two hours on it so far. I’m going to rip through it to the end first, before going back and unlocking everything and finding the secrets, as that way you get the “save anywhere” option. So far I’ve made it to World 6. Of 8. Yes. Already. I didn’t unlock World 4 though, so I’ve only really done four, not five. …

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (3DS): COMPLETED

I was pretty sure I’d posted on my diary about this already, back in November when I started playing it, but it seems not. Back then, I got to around half-way into the story, and aside from occasionally popping back on to do the latest downloadable puzzles, I hadn’t touched it once my Wii U arrived. After completing (and boy, did I complete it) New Super Mario Bros 2, I went back to Layton. It took me a few minutes to recall …

Stuff I’ve been playing recently

It’s another lazy roundup! Yay! Nintendo Land (Wii U) I’ve completed the Pikmin Adventure game, which took a couple of hours (and unlocked some more, harder levels). It’s really very good, and has me itching for Pikmin 3. I also played Octopus Dance some more, but no matter how well I do, a controller calibration or disconnection problem happens and I lose. Bah. Mighty Switch Force HD (Wii U) Although the level called “Bonus 5” is seemingly the same as …

3DS Game Need List

It’s been a while since I posted up a list of games I need. Sorry, NEED. Some would say there aren’t many 3DS games out recently or in the next 12 months, which, if true, makes me wonder which bit of me made all these up: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Marvel Pinball Heroes of Ruin Professor Layton & the Mask of Miracle New Super Mario Bros 2 Luigi’s Mansion 2 Harvest Moon Fire Emblem Rayman Origins Epic Mickey Paper Mario Layton …

NES Remix (Wii U)

I turned my Wii U on to play Super Mario 3D World Woohoo Meeeoow (as it’s called on the title screen) but loaded this instead. Some of the challenges are getting sillyhard now. I mainly did Super Mario Bros ones, and one of them involves beating all the bosses, another that required you to beat all the bosses with a fireflower (which is actually much more difficult), and another that I’m stuck on where you have to collect all the …

Things I’ve Played Recently

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS) Glorious. Oh, you want more? Erm, really glorious? It’s the best Zelda game since Minish Cap. Mainly because it’s the only Zelda games since Minish Cap, sure, but still. Yes, yes, I know there was Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass and those Wii ones and stuff, but they’re not proper Zelda games. Don’t argue. Nintendo have taken the essence of a proper Zelda game, reused the game world from A Link To …

The First Wii U Post

My Wii U arrived! So I spent most of the weekend playing it and the games I got with it. Nintendo Land It’s not a minigame collection. No matter who tells you it is, it isn’t. It’s a collection, sure, but some of the games are full, proper games. Take the Pikmin Adventure game. It’s Pikmin. Sure, it’s not got all the item collecting and night-time save-all-the-pikmin bits, but it’s a complete and reasonably long “campaign”. Single player only game …

Why I’m buying a 3DS

Since the release of the original Game Boy Advance, I’ve leapt on every Nintendo console on (or before!) launch. Why should this change with the release of Nintendo’s new 3D fancy DS followup? Answer: it shouldn’t. And here’s 5 reasons why I’ll be getting one on release day: 5. The games. If you believe, they will come. The same is always true of Nintendo consoles. New Super Mario Bros, Professor Layton, Ouendan, Hotel Dusk, Another Code, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. …

Gameking – Unleash the Games!

<< Previous (The Gameking) Gameking Games Readers without short-term memory problems will recall that I bought 13 games to go with my Gameking. Each and every one is special in its own special way. Special as in “special needs”, naturally. Firstly, a few points about Gameking games. The cartridges are strikingly familiar to anyone who has ever played on a Game Boy, since they’re exactly the same as Game Boy cartridges. Almost, anyway – instead of “Game Boy” they say …

In defence of the Wii

Nintendo’s Wii gets a bit of a hard time on gaming forums and newsgroups. In the eyes of many, it’s still a console for kids and/or old people. If you enjoy playing Wii games, the 360 and PS3 owners sneer at you as if you can’t afford a “proper” console (even though the 360 is cheaper!). They wonder how you can possibly like playing games with “last gen graphics” and “tacked on waggle”. What they’re not realising, is that graphics …

My picks of E3

Overall, I was a bit disappointed that there weren’t more proper new games at E3 this year. There were plenty of good games, but most have either been known about for ages, or were sequels. So, what I’m looking forward to:

Too many games!

It’s that time of year again. Well, actually, it’s not, which is the problem. Traditionally, there’s slim pickings for new games around this time of year. The busiest times for releasing new titles (especially big titles) is normally around Christmas and often over Easter too, but the July-October period is like release death in the UK. Except this year. As well having Bioshock released this week already, there’s fahsands more out between now and the end of November. Before the …
