Mega Man 3 (Wii U): COMPLETED!

Three down, three to go. Well, NES Mega Man games, anyway. They just announced the SNES Mega Man 7 is in the pipeline for the Wii U Virtual Console, so it won’t be over so soon. Mega Man 3 adds some new stuff to the series. The main thing, which had me stumped in a room until I realised, was you can now slide. This lets you squeeze under stuff, and is useful for avoiding certain attacks. The vaguely named …

Mega Man 2 (Wii U): COMPLETED!

Is this 2 or II? The title screen says II, but everywhere seems to reference it as 2. Up until writing this, I’d thought the roman numeral numbering system for Mega Man games only applied to the NES ones, and the Game Boy games used standard decimals, but I don’t suppose it really matters. What does really matter? The game! Which is just the same as the first one. Well, OK, that’s a slight lie. There are differences. First of all, …

Mega Man (Wii U): COMPLETED

When I downloaded Mega Man X the other week, I didn’t really anticipate playing any of the older Mega Man games. I sort of intended to play X, and, if I liked it, to pick up X2 and play that. Capcom clearly anticipated this and in their recent sale (all the NES Mega Man games on the Wii U Virtual Console are half price) failed to drop the price of X2. This forced me to pick up the original Mega …

Mega Man X (Wii U): COMPLETED!

After I’d completed Earthbound, which was some time ago now, I realise, I asked about for suggestions for other great SNES games I may have missed. Mega Man X was recommended several times. I was never a big fan of the series. In fact, I’d only properly played Mega Man 2 and one other (I don’t recall which) NES game, until the new-old Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 came out for the Wii a few years back. I …

Rayman Origins (3DS)

More of this sort of thing, please. I’m becoming increasingly bored with the way gaming is going. Grim first and third person shooters aren’t what I’m after anymore (or ever was, come to think of it), and games like those on the Megadrive and SNES are missed. Thankfully, there are a few game makers who seem to agree, and things like Rayman Origins happen. Happy fun blue skies platforming, with excellent up to date graphics. That’s what we need! Bizarrely, …

Fallout: New Vegas (360)

I’d not been this excited about a game’s release since Sonic 2 for the Megadrive was announced. I’ve been looking forward to it since it was announced two years ago. I’ve had it on pre-order for months. I even broke the £20 Rule to get the Special Edition. But was it worth it?  By hell, yes it was. At first glance, it seems to just been like an expansion pack for Fallout 3. It’s not, but even if it was, …

Top 10 Mega Drive Games

Of every games console or computer I’ve ever owned, the Sega Mega Drive is probably my favourite. It was my first console, and the one I own most games for. It also saw me through most of university, despite the N64, Saturn and PS1 all having just come out – I obviously didn’t have any money to buy them. It wasn’t until the end of 1999 that I bought something newer, meaning I’d had a full 8 years of Megadriving. …

Vectorman (Megadrive): COMPLETED!

This week is Retro Week on ugvm, so I’ve been playing a few older titles. I’ve had a few goes on Donkey Kong Game & Watch, but the main thing I’ve been playing so far has been Vectorman on the Megadrive (on Megadrive Ultimate Collection on the 360) and I completed it today. General thoughts: The graphics and effects are impressive, and the levels are quite varied. There’s no linking between levels, however, and so you seem to jump from …

Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine (360): COMPLETED!

One of the achievements for the Megadrive Collection on the 360 required the completion of this game. In fact, it’s the only achievement that actually requires you to complete a game. So I completed it. Strangely, Dr Robotnik (or Eggman, as he’s properly called) was actually easier than the three or four preceding opponents, as I beat him first attempt.

Sega Megadrive Ultimate Collection (360)

I could say this is completed, as today I unlocked the last of the achievements. However, it isn’t really a game like that – it’s lots of games, and I only completed one of those – see next post. This really is a great package. Some thoughts on other games I’ve played since Monday on it:Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine (excellent), Decap Attack (amazing), Story of Thor (not as good as Zelda), Fatal Labyrinth (an amazing surprise – never played it …

Fallout 3 (360)

Yes, look. I know I haven’t updated this diary again for several days, but the thing is, I’ve only really been playing Fallout 3. A lot. And more. 58 and a half hours elapsed, says my saved game. That’s a lot of hours. And I’m still not done with it. I’ve a fair few quests yet to even find, let alone start, and loads of locations yet to see. I picked the “Explorer” perk as the final one upon reaching …

Fallout 3 (360): COMPLETED!

To my regular readers, it may appear I’ve taken a break from gaming for the last week or so. This is not quite the case. In fact, I’ve probably squeezed more gaming hours into the last seven days than any other seven days in the last 15 years or more. Yes, that’s a lot of gaming. All of it (bar a 10 minute Lego Batman demo blip) on Fallout 3. Today, I completed the main story after a total recorded …

Fallout 3 (360)

Two days of play in one handy diary entry. Hurrah! I was heading for Rivet City, at first through the Metro, then overland along the river. Found a house where a drunk called Dukov lived with his two lady friends, and considered killing him, but decided against it. Found loads of bandits and super mutants on the way down the riverside, as well as some centaurs, who are like squid-faced man-crabs that spit actual crap at you. Nice action! Eventually …

Fallout 3 (360)

I’ve been waiting for this for what seems like forever. Forever since Oblivion, anyway. It’s like every other game between Oblivion and Fallout 3 has existed solely to pass the time. Anyway, I’ve spend five hours game-time (but actually, longer – read on) already today. That’s a lot for me. Addicted? Of course not. Honest. I’m really, really enjoying it. The opening sequence in the vault was brilliant. I redid a bit of the escape as I didn’t manage to …

Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise (360)

Apart from a quick go on Mega Man 9 yesterday, this is pretty much all I’ve played this week. And I’ve played it a lot. It really appeals to my OCD side, as I systematically work my way through all the pinatas, getting them in the garden then master romancing them. This week, I’ve managed Ponockys, Horstachios, Chewnicorns, Moozipans, Swananas, Rashberrys, Zumbugs, Galagoogoos, Profitamoles and Pigxies. I’ve also managed to make resident, or evolve to (but not yet romance), Moojoos, …
