Rayman Origins (3DS): COMPLETED!

A delight from start to finish. I’ve never been a fan of Rayman games, really. I had the one on the Jaguar, a few of the 3D ones on various consoles, and have played several others. They just seemed more on the Bubsy/Gex level of platforming dullness than Sonic/Mario. Rayman Origins somehow won me over, though. Maybe it’s a combination of nostalgia, quirkiness, and inventiveness. Who knows. Today, I completed it. Like most games, completed isn’t the end, and Rayman …

Liberation Maiden (3DS): COMPLETED!

It’s a short game, sure. The reviews all seem to centre on that fact. It doesn’t matter, as it’s utterly fantastic. Five levels (well, four as the fifth plays a bit differently) of Kid Icarus Uprising/Rez hybrid gameplay, with lovely graphics and nonsense plot: You’re a female president of Japan who must save the country from an unknown enemy by piloting a flying transformer whilst wearing a tight fitting catsuit. Obviously. Took me about two hours to complete, but I’ve …

Machinarium (iOS): COMPLETED!

Ages back, I bought the Mac version of this in a hitherto unplayed Indie Bundle. Or Humble Bundle. Or something. I was using my laptop the other day, and my daughter, being nosy, wanted to see what I was doing and decided we had to play something. One of the few games I had installed was this. We had a go, and she liked it, but she can’t use a trackpad so kept getting frustrated and tried poking the screen. …

Kirby’s Pinball Land (3DS): COMPLETED!

Easiest pinball game ever! OK, so pinball games just go on for ever and ever, but there’s a definite target in this one – to beat the three table bosses and then defeat Dedede. So that’s what I did. And it didn’t take very long as it’s pretty easy, not least because when you lose the “ball” (i.e., Kirby) you get a chance to get it back. Every time. The physics are a bit shonky too, but other than that, …

Kirby’s Dream Land 2 (3DS): COMPLETED!

With all my now-playing games completed, it was time to start something new. So, instead of starting one of the games on my Pile of Shame, I bought Kirby’s Dream Land 2 on the 3DS Virtual Console. Because, y’know, I didn’t have enough games already. And then I completed it. It wasn’t especially short (especially for a kirby game), but it was pretty easy. It was also much closer to Kirby’s Adventure (for the NES) than the original Kirby’s Dream …

Super Pokémon Rumble (3DS): COMPLETED!

Blimey. This turned out to be a pretty tedious slog by the end. I didn’t really expect much depth from it, to be fair, but after 14 hours of pretty much just pressing A and sometimes B to slap other Pokémon about with no levelling system (you just swap to more powerful Pokémon), mostly useless money to collect (don’t think I ever spent any), and no real difficulty, the appeal did start to wane a bit. Playing in relatively short …

Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure (3DS): COMPLETED!

Yay! Really plowing through these partially-started, not-quite finished games at the moment! Rhythm Thief was excellent. One part Layton, one part Sega Rhythm Game Compilation. Bonkers plot, twists, lots of nice pictures of Paris, clever rhythm games (some of which were somewhat hard!) and some OCD screen-tappage. What more could you want? Apart from the clearly planned sequel, of course. If you have a 3DS, you MUST buy this. If for no reason other than to tell Sega that this is …

Kirby’s Block Ball (3DS): COMPLETED!

I did start this a few months ago, and got to the end of World 4 (of 10). I don’t recall why I stopped playing as it isn’t a bad game. Probably something else caught my eye. Since I’m in the mood for mopping up started-but-unfinished games at the moment, I continued with it and after a couple of hours had smashed my way through to the end of the game. It was pretty good fun, but frustrating in that, …

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (360): COMPLETED!

Of course, “completed” with Lego games means “I’ve done the story levels”. It does not mean I’ve gone through all the levels again in Free Play, nor does it mean I’ve found all the minikits, red and gold bricks, and done any secret/hidden/special levels or other stuff. Sure, I’ve done some of those things, but with a completion of just 51% and only 35/130 gold bricks still remaining I’m a way off yet… Knowing nothing about the TV series this is …

Skyrim (360): COMPLETED!

After 70-ish hours play, it was time to end the main quest. Not because I’ve had enough or run out of things to do, but just because I wanted to move on to other games for a bit and thought it best to finish off the story rather than leave it hanging. This involved some diplomacy, capturing a dragon, then being whisked off to Sovngarde (via an area full of billions of high-level draugr, and I’d stupidly forgotten to bring …

Ben There, Dan That! (PC): COMPLETED!

Well this is a very rare occurrence. So rare, in fact, I’m not entirely sure I’ve ever had one before. One what, you ask? This – a completed PC game. It’s unusual I even play one, let alone complete one. In fact, it’s not exactly commonplace that I buy them. However, I seem to snap up most of these Indie Bundle things, and Ben There, Dan That! was one of them I got recently-ish. It’s a funny, well written, quirky, self-aware, …

Kid Icarus: Uprising (3DS): COMPLETED!

In my quest to mop up some of the outstanding part-complete games I’ve started over the last couple of months, I went back to KI:U the other day. I hadn’t given up on it, or tired of it, it’s just other games happened. You know how it is. I wasn’t as close to the end as I’d anticipated. I thought, although I’m not sure what made me think this, that Chapter 17 was the final chapter. It isn’t: Chapter 25 …

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD (360): COMPLETED!

With one character, at least: all cash and goals on all levels GET! That’s not the end though – oh no. There’s never really an end to proper Tony Hawk’s games anyway, but as well as having other skaters to play as, completing the game also unlocks a new game mode: PROjectives. This is a new set of very hard objectives for each level. I’ve done all of them for The Warehouse already though 🙂 Besides doing that, I boosted …

Castlevania: The Adventure (3DS): COMPLETED!

It’s about time I actually completed something! Skyrim has sucked most of my time, and although I’ve been playing other games, none of them are that near the end. This game was pretty short though, if a bit difficult. I wrote this about it last time I completed it (back on an actual Game Boy!): Oh my! Only four levels? Just as well as if there were any more, things may have been broken on purpose. Level 3 is the …
