Stuff I’ve played recently

A roundup of some of the games I’ve been playing in the last couple of weeks: Pullblox (3DS) Completed this a while back, but have gone back to finish some of the bonus levels that you unlock, and some of the user generated ones I’ve found strewn across the internets. It’s still lovely. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (360) Returned to mop up a few more achievements and actually play some of the side missions and games I’d totally missed. There are …

Oh Sega, you big tease

Why must you do this to me? Why, after all the terrible, terrible things I’ve seen and heard about Sonic Generations, why, after all the times you have burnt me in the past, WHY, oh WHY, must you then do this? I mean, that looks AWESOME. Oh I hate you, Sega. So very very much. Because now I need to buy this game, and you KNOW I will, and then you’ll make me pay for trusting you again by putting …

Stuff wot I are bin playing

I’ve not posted in a while, aside from to mention Yakuza 3 and Old World Blues, but I have still been playing games. Here’s a round-up of what’s been going down over the last few weeks: Professor Layton and the Lost Future (DS) I actually completed this at the start of the year, but as I did with the previous two games once the story was done I left the remaining puzzles until near the release of the following game. …

Games I’ve Played In The Last Week Or Two

Haven’t had an update post in a while, and I’ve been trying out lots of different games over the last couple of weeks and not made mention of them here, so here’s a roundup: Say What You See (iOS) A series of pictures with hidden clues to game titles, films, etc. Like a cross between Where’s Wally? and a cryptic crossword. There are number of “canvases”, and I’ve been playing the Arcade Games one. Completed it, but some of them …

My CGC Entries

Over the years, I’ve entered a few games into the comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Competition myself. Never won (or should that be lost?) mind. Perhaps my games were too good? Read below for the actual games, or skip over to the last page to play them! Octopus Lite (1999) This is my Speccy conversion of an old Nintendo Game and Watch game called (spookily) Octopus. The idea is to guide your little man down to the treasure, nab it and return …

Banned from NOE Forums

deKay’s Nintendo Forums Wrangle Introduction Nintendo of Europe (NOE) have a website at www.nintendo-europe.com. On this site, they have a set of forums – open to all registered users (such as myself). As is common with most web-based forums, you can set yourself a “sig file”, which is appended to the bottom of each post you make. Prior to 6th November 2002, my sig read something similar to: deKayeditor of the free videogames magazine “ugvm”http://www.ugvm.org.uk On the 6th November 2002, I …

Articles

Banned from Nintendo of Europe’s online forums In February 2004, I was banned from the NOE forums. I consider the ban to be unfair, and here is my evidence. The Time Top Gameking Handheld In November 2004, I bought a Gameking, perhaps the most “special” handheld ever to be released. Here’s my report on it. Irritating and Unnecessary Gaming Clichés Why do game companies insist on putting the same broken game elements into their games? Things we need to stop …

Assorted MSX Games

I got given an MSX this morning. Not only that, but it works! Not only that, but it came with some games! What an amazing day. First up was Pairs. It’s a pelmanism-style matching pairs game, but you have a little man you have to guide to the cards to flip them, while avoiding the baddies. It was fun for a bit. Then I played Eric and the Floaters. The original Bomberman game. Coincidentally, I’d actually blogged about this very …

Stupid DIY blind instructions

I had a bit of a tantrum yesterday, because the simple task of putting up a blind seemed beyond me. Of course, it wasn’t entirely my fault as several things conspired against me, including a wall with a metal plate behind it.¬¨‚Ć However, the B&Q instructions didn’t exactly help. Just look at the quality of this amazing diagram: (click it for a bigger, but not exactly more visible version) Ignoring the fact the screws provided needed 5mm holes, not 6mm, …

The third anti-natal class

This week, we had our third (of four in total) anti-natal class. The theme this time was “Pain”. Basically, we were told all about the pains to expect before and during labour, and the methods that could be used in order to help with them. They ranged from “breathing differently” to “omfg we’re putting needles in your spine”. Nice. Then we were told about some complications that could happen, most of which involved yanking the baby out with some sort …

Baby progress update

Today we went for the 20 week (well, 20 weeks and two days) scan at the hospital. Thankfully, everything was fine, even though we appear to have a wriggler – it wouldn’t stay still to let the nurse get a proper look! It also kept putting its hands over its face, which, although cute, didn’t really help. We did manage to get a great picture when it finally calmed down though. I suspect it’s the ice lolly (onna stick – …

Halo (Xbox)

Sigh. If “The Silent Cartographer” is supposed to be a highlight of the game, then it really does need putting down. It was awful. More corridors that look the same. Areas of the map too dark to see in (and no, the flashlight doesn’t really help). Wave after wave after wave of the same baddies again and again and again. Tedious! I thought things might have improved when I got to the next bit (which starts with more identical rooms …

How to install XP on a Philips Freevents laptop

We got a couple of Philips Freevents 11NB5800 laptops at work this week, and they’re actually very nice. Of course, they come with Vista installed, so we had to remove that. Problem #1 There are no XP drivers for the Freevents 11B5800. There’s nothing in the box (not even a Vista restore disc), and Philips have no mention of any of their laptops on their website. In fact, outside of PC World’s online store, the Freevents doesn’t appear to exist. …

Every Extend Extra Extreme (360)

There’s been a lot of hype about this around the newsgroups and forums I post in, so I was pretty sure E4 was going to be ace. And it is. Sort of. The thing is, it’s not so much a game – more a test of will, staying power and stamina. The main game mode has a time limit of 3 minutes, which you can extend by collecting power-ups. These power-ups are so common, however, that you can easily time …

Sonic Rush Adventure (DS)

I have come across a major, irritating, and almost game-breaking problem with this game today. I couldn’t progress yesterday as I needed to build a new boat. But I couldn’t build a new boat as I didn’t have enough of the required Material. The solution? Play levels I’d already played before. Again. And again. Until I’d collected enough to carry on. How annoying! Then I had to race a shark on sea bikes, and got a Chaos Emerald for my …
